13-14 October 2012
Munich- Amsterdam
The 3rd edition of the Keys and Stix Festival will take place on the 13-14 October 2012 in collaboration with Bimhuis, Amsterdam and Unterfahrt, Munich.
The program aims to juxtapose warm and poetic sounds to raw, rhythmical and vigorous ones. It includes three variable duets – the remarkable jazz pianist and composer Simon Nabatov with the New York Avant-guard drummer Tom Rainey; the elegant and experienced Dutch duo Wolfer Brederode and Joost Lijbaart; and the surprising new collaboration between the Bulgarian pianist-composer Dimitar Bodurov and the American drummer Michael Vatcher.
Keys and Stix Festival has a unique set-up; the two-day event is the first to exclusively feature duos with piano and drums, as well as variations there of.
The goal of the event is to capture a new trend by accommodating already existing duos, but also at inspiring others for innovative input in that direction.
Since the format shapes the profile of the festival and removes the focus from stylistic identity, practically any keys-and-stix duo ranging from improvised avant-garde jazz to contemporary, classical, electronic or ethnical can contribute to the affirmation of the idea.
Within that format the Keys and Stix Festival wishes to bring some new daring fresh music to the world; to cross over the traditional stylistic borders and celebrate creativity in its purest form.
